About Mount Adams
The second highest mountain in Washington, and the third highest peak in the Cascade range, Mt. Adams is home to twelve glaciers. In 1921, the Forest Service completed a fire lookout on top of the broad summit, but soon abandoned the building in 1924 due to high clouds that often obstructed the view and made the lookout less useful than those at lower elevations. The building found new life as part of a sulphur mine that operated between 1929 and 1938.
